This 50-zloty banknote dated 1944 belongs to the so-called Lubelska Series, prepared during the transitional period in which Poland’s monetary circulation was being re-established near the end of the Second World War. It was an ordinary circulating issue rather than a commemorative note or a collector’s pattern, so its importance is best understood in the context of everyday payments and the organization of monetary administration in post-war Poland. The 50-zloty denomination occupied a middle position within the contemporary range of notes and was used for more substantial payments than the lowest denominations, although its purchasing power varied by year, locality, and the rapidly changing economic conditions.
